Fidget funk
London's Lee Mortimer hits the decks at Cadence for one last time this weekend before the club undergoes a total rebirth, writes PAUL HARVEY
The Mnisty of Sound brand is respected by just about everyone with a smidgen of interest in the world of nightclubs and the music that emanates from the speakers.
Born from a modest club night in London almost 20 years ago, it has gone on to conquer the globe through multi-million unit CD sales and club nights held every weekend in almost every country on the planet.
This Saturday night, Cairns will host the resident DJ that shapes the sound for the home of Ministry of Sound in London.
Lee Mortimer has been making waves with his productions and DJ sets by taking every opportunity to supply ears with his exciting, sleaze-filled fidget house.
Lee’s DJ roots are in the underground, late nights and sweaty clubs.
It is this experience that has seen him play as far afield as San Francisco (EndUp), Ibiza (Filth) and Brisbane (Family), and, of course, now Cairns, plus all of Britain’s top spots – Ministry Of Sound, Turnmills, The Egg, Back To Basics – the list goes on.
He has firmly established himself as a top-notch recording artist and has had tracks and remixes on CR2, Made To Play, .dotbleep Recordings, Odori, Aquasky’s Passenger Records and many more.
Dave Taylor’s Dubsided Records have recently knocked on the door too and a series of EPs are on the boil.
Now concentrating his efforts into his own label, Wearhouse Music, Lee has come into his own with his production creativity and talent-scouting skills.
No prizes for guessing then that love for Lee’s tracks has come from all corners of the dance music world.
This includes support from Switch, Pete Tong, Claude VonStroke, Crookers, Jesse Rose, Kid Kenobi, Micky Slim and loads more to boot.
Saturday also sees the welcome return of one of Cairns’ favourite and finest DJs to emerge over the last year or two in the shape of Crasey.
He has spent the past six months travelling, partying and mixing up a storm, and this will be a fitting homecoming for the talented DJ.
This is the official last party for Cadence Lounge and Bar before it launches a new look, new name and new vibe – and a new home for Cairns' favourite clubbing sounds and people.
