Chilly morning strikes

COOKTOWN has shivered through its coldest May morning on record, as temperatures across the Cairns region plunged as low as 3C.

At 6am, Cooktown's temperature was 10C.

But it was still not as cold as the Tableland. At Ravenshoe, temperatures as low as 3C were reported, while at Mareeba, the temperature at 6am was 9.4C.

In Cairns at 6.30am the temperature was a cool 13C.

Today’s forecast is for a fine and clear day with light winds and an afternoon seabreeze. The fine weather is expected to continue through the weekend.

Cool to cold mornings are expected on the Tableland this weekend with some frosts possible on the higher ground.
