Injuries hobbling Bulls
FNQ Bulls coach Peter Tokesi does not want to use the term "injury crisis" to describe his playing stocks but there is no denying the club is doing its bit to keep the Far Northern physiotherapy industry afloat.
The Bulls have five players unavailable through injury for tonight’s Queensland State League clash against Logan United at Borzi Park.
In a further blow to the home side, fullback Kane Alderton is also out after he was suspended for accumulating too many demerit points.
But in better news for the Bulls, central defender and captain Victor Madrid returns from his one-match suspension while midfielder Dennis Allen and first-choice keeper Daniel Wilesmith are also back.
Tokesi said the Bulls were starting to feel the pinch of playing in a high-quality competition.
"The boys trained well this week but a lot of them are starting to get these niggly type of injuries and that’s because they are not used to playing at this level for this long," he said.
"I’ve never known a side to go through the whole season without injuries. It’s just a matter of when you get them.
"That’s why you have squad."
Tokesi said he would meet FNQ Football operations manager Chris Collins about the Bulls recruiting more players from the local premier league.
"I know the clubs won’t be too happy about it," he said.
"But we’ve got three players who are out for the year and all we need is one or two more to go down and we’re going to have trouble fielding a side."
The Bulls expect no sympathy for their injury woes from Logan United, who are chasing their fourth win a row.
Last time the teams met it was Logan United winning 1-0 after influential midfielder Raj Oshen scored in the first half. Tokesi has entrusted Renzo Franco with the job of keeping Oshen quiet in tonight’s game.
"A lot of the good things they did last time came through him (Oshen), so hopefully Renzo can do a defensive job on him," he said.
Main game kick-off is 8pm.
