Froggone it, bye bye birdy

THIS green tree frog is settling the score for every amphibian that's been pecked to death by a hungry bird.

Beak, feathers, claws and all, Babette and Carmelo Di Bella watched with disbelief and horror as their patio-dwelling friend devoured a young chick.

In the series of photos, the frog can be seen demolishing the chick and shoving it down its throat.

Ms Di Bella photographed the gruesome natural display, after hearing a frog "splat" land on the ground, followed by the doomed bird crying.

The couple thought the frog might change its mind and spit out the chick, which a local bird expert believes was a dusky honeyeater.

"We heard the bird squeaking and thought it was the frog being eaten by a snake," Ms Di Bella said.

"It sat there for a little while afterwards so we thought the bird might have killed it, but it was OK.

"It's still there - it hasn't eaten any more birds though."

Tucker in a flutter: Just a wing remains from the frog's meal.
