The battle is on...
Aspiring local bands and live acts get cracking - the timeOUT Battle Of The Bands is back, writes Jesse Kuch
By now you’ve probably heard that this year’s timeOUT Concert line-up has been announced.
On Saturday, August 29, Cairns’ biggest and best outdoor live music event will take over Fogarty Park on the Esplanade with headliners for this year’s event including legendary Oz rockers Grinspoon, the return of hip-hop heroes the Hilltop Hoods and hot new blues-rock outfit The Fumes.

But who will get to support them on the big day?
The timeOUT Battle Of The Bands is held every year leading up to the concert with the 2009 competition to be held at Gilligan’s Backpacker’s Resort during July and August.
Past winners have included indie alternative rockers The Medics in 2008 and talented grunge rockers The Venus Battery in 2007 – both having gone on to become a couple of the region’s best-loved live bands.
Furthering our commitment to local live music, this year we will be giving two bands the chance to appear onstage at the timeOUT Concert with three heats held at Gilligan’s on July 19, July 26 and August 2. The big winners will then be decided at a grand final on Friday, August 7, also at Gilligan’s.
Winners will be judged on strength of live show, creativity and crowd support.
Entering is easy – just supply a demo or Myspace profile to reckerm@tcp.newsltd.com.au or call 4052 6681.
Entries close on Friday, July 3.
So if you’re in a band and want a set in front of thousands at the timeOUT Concert or know someone who fits the bill, get in touch, register your entry and get practising!
>> The timeOUT Battle Of The Bands will be held at Gilligan’s tomorrow, July 26, August 2 and August 7 (final). The main event will go down at Fogarty Park on The Esplanade on Saturday, August 29, with headline acts Grinspoon, The Hilltop Hoods and The Fumes.
