IT is a long road from the footy ovals of the Far North to the bright lights of the MCG but four boys may have taken their first steps.

Jack Keygan (ruckman), Heath Molloy (wing), Bayley Carrier-Hubbard (onballer) and Jack Bowes (onballer) were selected in the Queensland Country under-12 side after starring for Peninsula at the state titles in Brisbane.

The boys helped Peninsula fight back from a slow start at the tournament to win its last three games. Peninsula coach Cameron Campbell said the boys deserved their representative call-up.

"I thought getting four players in the team was a good representation," he said. "They all had really strong carnivals. Jack (Bowes) and Bayley are in our leadership group and really threw themselves into the role."

Campbell said the boys were thrilled by their selections. "They were all very excited," he said.

"Getting those three wins at the end was very important. The whole team improved as the week went along as we started to adjust to the standard of competition.

"It was a great experience. All the boys were exceptionally well behaved and did the Peninsula jumper proud."

Queensland Country went down to Met East 3.3 (21) to 1.5 (11).
