Exercise on the Esplanade: Fitness classes are conducted alongside the Cairns marina throughout the week.

KEEPING fit and active is easy in Cairns, with fun, free, exercise classes at the Cairns Esplanade all year round.

The new spring fitness class timetable includes a special, mid-morning class for mums and bubs and a new weekly Cairns Running Club event.

Try starting the day with yoga, pilates or aqua aerobics, or join an afternoon beach volleyball clinic on Wednesdays.

Throughout the week, there’s also a petanque, circuit and boxercise classes, and for the brave, Sarge’s boot camp.

Classes meet at the Lagoon Cafe except beach volleyball, which meets at the courts near the skate park.

If group fitness classes don’t suit your schedule, you can still get active at the Esplanade.

The picturesque waterside promenade is designed cater for everything from leisurely walks – lovely at sunrise or sunset - to speedsters on wheels. There's a complete fitness course signposted at regular intervals along the way.

Or take a swim in the lagoon. It’s open all year round and is free.

For the kids, there’s Muddy’s playground and a skate park.
