Shogun Black pitcher fires up
Shogun Black triumphed over Reds B in a Cairns Baseball League majors game in which the pitchers ruled on Sunday.
Shogun Black pitcher Shigeru Furuya had six strikeouts in the 5-4 victory while Reds counterpart Jesse Marnock collected four.
Reds scorer Jenny Warnock said both teams made costly mistakes in the match at Trinity Beach.
"There were a few errors on both sides, not a huge amount but just enough at the right time," Warnock said.
"Essentially I think Reds had more hits, they had seven hits and the other guys had four hits but Reds just couldn’t convert them.
"It was a disappointing loss, especially when they scored one run in the last innings to bring it to 5-4 and they had three batters come up and hit single base hits and they couldn’t convert it."
In the other majors match, Cubs A easily beat Cubs B.
Meanwhile, Cairns’ best baseballers are preparing for the start of the Barrier Reef tournament next week.
Cairns will take on a visiting American team, a Townsville side and the North Queensland under-18 team in the tournament, which runs from July 31 to August 2.
