Bulls not calling time

FINALS might be out of the question for the FNQ Bulls in their maiden Queensland State League season but they will happily spoil the top-four ambitions of the NQ Razorbacks in Townsville tomorrow.

The Bulls sit mid-table and not even the most creative of mathematicians could find a way for them to sneak into the finals.

But the Razorbacks remain in contention and sit only two points out of the four with three games left in the regular season.

While he enjoys a good relationship with Razorbacks coach Mick Tonner, Bulls mentor Peter Tokesi said no favours would be granted on the park.

"We’ll go down there to try and win but I’m not sure our players are as keen as they were earlier on this year," he said.

"This is the one game you want to win. It should be like a grand final.

"But I think the fact we can’t make the top four means it’s hard to get the players
going mentally."

The Bulls beat a severely depleted Bundaberg Spirit last week 5-2 but will need an improved performance to topple the Razorbacks.

The sides drew their first encounter of the season 1-1 in a game the Razorbacks dominated.

For the rematch, Tokesi has partnered regular striker Steven Cater with George Koroma and moved Joe Rusch and Alex Plowman, back from a hamstring injury, to the flanks.

"Townsville’s strength is out wide. That’s where they hurt us last time and it will be up to Joe and Alex to stay with their runners," Tokesi said.

FNQ Bulls: Daniel Wilesmith (gk), Cameron Morrison, Kane Alderton, Victor Madrid, Glenn Hurney, Dennis Allen, George Koroma, Alex Plowman, Joe Rusch, Steven Cater, Nick Notaras. Subs: Robert Pendenza, David Ruiz, Gavin Jenkin.
