VIDEO footage showing a rabbit attacking a snake has emerged in the wake of a Tableland resident's report of bunnies biting snakes to death outside his home.

As reported in the Tablelander and on cairns.com.au yesterday, Armando Del Manso, of East Barron, last week watched two wild rabbits attacking a king brown snake.

His discovery came three weeks of wondering what had been killing a series of snakes around his home.

“I’m gobsmacked, it’s absolutely incredible," Mr Del Manso said.

“We were watching from the veranda with a spotlight, and I thought, who is going to believe this, they’ll think I’m crazy.”

More weird news

Wildlife expert Paul O’Callaghan of the Cairns Wildlife Safari said it was the first time he had heard of rabbits attacking snakes.

The report also met with disbelief from a number of cairns.com.au readers yesterday.

But after reading yesterday's report, Atherton resident Cheryl Hopkins was prompted to share a video she said had been filmed in Texas, USA, and emailed to her.

The compelling footage shows a wild rabbit confronting a snake and chasing it several metres before it escapes to safety in a tree.

A brave rabbit confronts a snake then chases it and tackles it as it escapes up a tree.

Killer instinct: East Barron resident Armando Del Manso says wild rabbits are responsible for the deaths of a series of snakes at his home.
