Hotel owner calls it a day
AFTER 15 years running the Tropical Queenslander Hotel, Mike Spaulding has decided it is time to move on.
Mr Spaulding has decided to sell the 58-room, 3.5-star hotel and follow up new opportunities.
The property is at the corner of Lake, McKenzie and Digger streets in North Cairns.
CB Richard Ellis manager Danny Betros said the property’s features included two pools, a bar and restaurant while all rooms had kitchenettes.
Mr Betros said the hotel’s position 2km from the city and one block from the Esplanade meant it provided easy access for everyone.
"The classic type of hotel rarely comes on the market in Cairns and it is an ideal family style operation," he said.
"The hotel is in good condition and trading profitably."
Mr Betros said the hotel was also a good size.
"A hotel of 58 rooms is very manageable for a couple or a family," he said.
"It is also the right size for tour groups and suits both holidaymakers and overnighters.
"Then you’ve got access from three streets."
The hotel is to be sold by expression of interest in what could be an interesting test of the market.
Expressions close on October 15.
