Water park gets nod
BREAKING NEWS: Cairns councillors have voted to approve plans for a controversial waterslide theme park to be built at Smithfield.
Seven of the 11 councillors backed the Adventure Waters project.

Mayor Val Schier was joined by councillors Leu, Forsyth and Lesina in voting against the plan, citing concerns about the location and fears of flooding.

Cairns Regional Council planners last month recommended a proposed $35 million water park Adventure Waters be rejected.
During this morning's council meeting, Cr Schier said she voted against the "populist idea" because she had issues with the location with regard to flooding.
