Police officer assaulted
A MAN will appear in Cairns court today after he allegedly kicked a female police officer before being subdued with capsicum spray.
A 20-year-old Mossman man was charged with serious assault of a police officer after the incident at Mossman Gorge community last night.
Police located the man on Johnson St about 8pm and he was arrested in relation to several outstanding matters.
The man then attempted to flee and struggled with police as they attempted to place him into the rear of the vehicle.
The man allegedly kicked out and struck the hand of a female officer against the vehicle’s door, causing a laceration and swelling, as well as a possible fracture.
The man was then subdued with capsicum spray and transported to Cairns.
He will appear in the Cairns Magistrates’ Court today.
Ambulance officers treated the policewoman at the scene.
