TIRELESS Cairns humanitarian Barry Jiggins - who has made the impoverished people of Mongolia his life 's passion - has held a special meeting with Australia's first resident Mongolian Ambassador.  

Mr Jiggins flew to Sydney to meet Mr Tserendorj Jambaldorj and bring him up-to-date on the Cairns-based charity, MongoliAid International, and its latest projects.

"He was very interested and very affable and sincerely interested in what I was doing," Mr Jiggins told the Cairns Sun.

"I told him a little bit of what I’d done previously and a little bit of what I was hoping to do. He was keen to learn exactly where I was doing the work and my motivations as well."

In the last six years, Mr Jiggins has sent thousands of blankets, shoes, toys and mattresses to hospitals, orphanages and schools in Mongolia’s frost-bitten Gobi Desert and is now raising money to build a new well for the first dedicated Scout Camp in Mongolia.

"A dining hall and staff accommodation buildings have already been built at the site. Construction of the well will begin in March 2010, with completion in November 2010. The project will cost US$7700," he said.

"MongoliAid will also begin the construction of the first wells in the world named after Beatles John, Paul, George and Ringo in 2011, in the Gobi province of Bayankhongor."
