Engaging way to pop the question
IT was a guaranteed success for Melinda Croft's man. He bought the ring first, made sure it fitted perfectly and then popped the question.
Ms Croft, 22, yesterday flaunted her white gold diamond encrusted ring at the third annual Grand Wedding Expo at the Cairns Colonial Club Resort.
The young bride’s engagement story was one of hundreds being swapped and shared at the expo, which puts soon-to-be brides in touch with 30 exhibitors, selling wedding stationery through to cakes and cars.
Ms Croft said buying the ring with her husband-to-be, Jake Kingdom, had allayed all fears of rejection while guaranteeing a perfect ring fit.
"We bought the ring together and it wasn’t until after that that he asked me to marry him … I guess it does ensure a 100 per cent success rate," she said.
Ms Croft will get married next year in October in a bare-foot beach wedding at Port Douglas.
Meeting Mr Kingdom, a boat skipper, through friends a couple of years ago, Ms Croft said she would never marry a sailor, but is now happily going ahead with their plans to tie the knot.
