$150,000 cocaine stashed in stereo
AN accused drug dealer has appeared in court after police allegedly found a $150,000 stash of cocaine hidden in his Landcruiser's speaker system last night.
Police intercepted a vehicle outside an Edmonton hotel yesterday.
Police said they found four bags of high purity cocaine, totalling 15oz, hidden in the vehicle's audio system.
Police estimated the street value of the seized drug to be about $150,000.
The man's Toyota Landcruiser station wagon and his mobile phone were also seized as a result of allegedly being used in the commission of a crime.
Steven Miljak, 42, was charged with four counts of unlawfully supplying dangerous drugs, two counts of possessing property used in the commission of a crime and one count of drug trafficking.
He appeared in Cairns Magistrates Court this morning.
He did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody.
His case was adjourned to April 28, 2010.
Recently appointed officer-in-charge of the Far Northern regional drug squad Det-Sen-Sgt Kevin Goan said the arrest followed a long investigation, known as Operation Golf Crate, which has involved local detectives and members from the state drug and property investigation unit since 2008.
"This was a great result that has come about through the collaborative efforts of a number of agencies," he said.
"We believe that Operation Golf Crate has made a significant impact on the powder drug trade in the Far North."
