INNISFAIL rugby league superstar Billy Slater couldn't wipe the smile off his face as he married Cairns girl Nicole Rose in an intimate back yard wedding at her Redlynch family home.

About 200 guests, including Slater’s Melbourne Storm, Australian and Queensland teammates, and the couple's daughter, Tyla, 13 months, attended the wedding on Saturday.

Former Storm winger Steve Turner was one of Slater's groomsmen while guests included Greg Inglis, Brett Finch, Matt Geyer, Cameron Smith and Craig Bellamy.

Michael Crocker, who lived with the couple in Melbourne earlier this year while he prepared for a return to the NRL, and the partner of Slater’s sister were the best men.

While Slater is one of Australia's biggest sporting celebrities the wedding was a relaxed, low-key event.

Slater, who wore a white shirt and grey slacks, laughed and smiled throughout the ceremony.

Nicole wore a white lace cap-sleeve and V-neck empire line gown.

Bridesmaids wore strapless yellow dresses.

The couple met at pony club as teenagers and were reunited in early 2005 while Slater was in Cairns for a trial match.

It has been a whirlwind two months for Slater, who won the Clive Churchill Medal as the best on ground in the Storm's NRL premiership win last month.

He was an integral part of Australia's Four Nations tour of England and France, scoring three tries in the final against England.

And the commitments aren't over with Slater reportedly putting his honeymoon on hold to be part of Channel 7 television program Australia's Greatest Athlete.

Filming starts next week with Slater looking to defend his title against Wendell Sailor, V8 Supercars driver Craig Lowndes and ironman Shannon Eckstein.
