PALM Cove has been named as Far North Queensland's cleanest beach - again.

The idyllic Cairns suburb, better known as a popular tourist destination, was crowned with the title this morning by the Keep Australia Beautiful Council.

Palm Cove was named Australia’s cleanest beach in 2003 and Queensland's cleanest beach in 2002.

It will now move onto the Clean Beach Challenge State finals on December 15 in a bid to reclaim its Queensland title.

Other award winners included: Green Island, which received the Environmental Protection award, Litter Prevention, and Resource Recovery awards; Cardwell received the Young Legends award; and Palm Cove also received the Partnership Award.

Tourism Palm Cove president John Astle said Palm Cove was praised for the way the community, visitors, Surf Life Savers and the Cairns Regional Council had worked together to not only keep the beach pristine, but present a friendly village atmosphere where everyone was involved.

"The community and businesses of Palm Cove have been working hard with the Cairns Regional Council to make a difference to the beach," Mr Astle said.

"Works include installing automatic taps at the public showers along the foreshore and a series of clean up days conducted by the village’s businesses and Tourism Palm Cove."
