Sobieralski killed after drug deal failed, court told
BREAKING NEWS: Cairns man Lance Sobieralski was killed over a drug and theft deal gone wrong, a Cairns court has been told.
A committal hearing for four people charged with murdering Mr Sobieralski began this morning.
Gavin Paul Welham, 29, Jonathon Marc Bromell, 25, and Dianne Pearl Martin, 39, are each charged with murder and interfering with a corpse. James Arthur Larkham, 36, is also charged with murder.
In Cairns Magistrates’ Court, police prosecutor Sen-Sgt John Naess alleged that Mr Sobieralski had made threats against Mr Welham and Ms Martin and their children, after making a deal with Mr Welham to receive $5000 and half a kilogram of cannabis in return for him selling a stolen car.
Sen-Sgt Naess told the court Mr Sobieralski began sending a series of threatening messages to Mr Welham after Mr Welham failed to pay.
Sen-Sgt Naess said Ms Martin text messaged Mr Sobieralski on January 17, 2009, asking him to collect the payment.
Sen-Sgt Naess told the court Mr Sobieralski attended their home with another man, who fled when he was attacked with a baseball bat and did not see Mr Sobieralski again.
The committal hearing is scheduled to continue for two weeks.
