Heli-rafting green light
Ready for take-off: Rafting trips on the Tully River, near Mission Beach, are the focus of a new "heli-rafting" venture.
TOURISTS will be whisked from Mission Beach, Bedarra and Dunk islands by helicopter to white-water rafting trips on the Tully River under a new tourism venture.
Cassowary Coast Regional Council has given approval for NQ Heli-Worx to use council land beside a bridge over the upper reaches of the Tully River as a landing point.
The approval is for a six-month trial.
NQ Heli-Worx operator Wayne Harper said scenic flights around Mission Beach, south of Innisfail, and its islands began several weeks ago.
The next step was branching into "heli-rafting".
Cr Jennifer Downs said the proposal was a "positive one" for the region.
