STEVEN Boody reckons he has the right dog to carve up his rivals in tomorrow night's prestigious Young Guns final (410m) at Cannon Park.

The now-retired butcher from Churchable, near Gatton, prepares More Fury, the $2.25 second-elect for one of the Far North’s biggest dog races of the year.

More Fury qualified for the mixed final (which carries first prizemoney of $2500) as the fastest heat winner in 34.36sec and will jump from box seven.

"(More Fury’s) no champion, but is very well-performed," hobby trainer Boody said yesterday.

"He’s not a bang-out-of-the-boxes type of dog, but he will go forward and find out any weakness in the others."

More Fury has the bloodlines to say he will figure in the finish.

He is by five-year-old bitch Gorgas, who won two Young Guns during her racing career and has already produced two pups to claim the same prestigious race.

While More Fury sizzled to a heat victory last week, it came at a price.

"He copped a real buffeting (from the other dogs) in the catching pen after the race and also during it," Boody said.

"He’s been responding well to treatment since then and I’ve actually just finished giving him his final work for the final, over 150m (at Cannon Park).

"He’s certainly not an over-the-line job, because it’s a very hard race to win."

Boody may have two runners in the final, with Unpainted the first reserve after a luckless heat run.

He says there is no standout danger in the race, with "Patty Ryan’s dog (Two Short, $1.70 favourite) and Robynne Black’s pair (Vivacity, $4, and Wise Choice, $5) good
chances".

"I haven’t had much luck of late, so I’m due for some and hopefully I get that on Saturday," Boody said.

Tomorrow’s Young Guns feature final, the sixth of seven races on the night, is at 8.10pm. The first is at 6.30pm.
