It's hard to go past Cable Ski Cairns if you are looking for a no-stress and no-fuss day on the water on your next Cairns Tropical North Queensland holiday.

Myself and another thrillseeker couldn’t wait to get out to the Smithfield location, just 12 minutes drive north of Cairns on the Captain Cook Highway, to test our skills in a safe facility with an array of watersport activities.

No need for stinger suits on this outing, the man-made freshwater lagoon keeps all the bities out and all we needed to do was don our lifejackets, precautionary helmets and pick our tool of choice to walk on water.

Even the most inexperienced water skiers will find themselves hooking through the corners and becoming confident as they progress from the basic kneeboard to water skis and, for the more adventurous, wakeboarding.

The expert staff on hand to help build your confidence include some of the best male and female wakeboarders in Australia.

Simple-to-follow tips such as: “Hold the rope like you are trying to stop a shopping trolley from rolling away” might seem strange, but sure enough you will quickly find yourself being pulled gently down the lake and similar analogies help master the other different methods of walking on water.

It certainly lives up to its goal of delivering a truly unique water sport experience for all ages by providing an open-view terrace with chairs and tables to kick back after a solid session and watch with a refreshment or two from the kiosk.

Sun lounges and umbrellas also are available, along with a small swimming lagoon for younger visitors.

Cable Ski Cairns is open from 10am until 6pm daily with a 9pm finish on Thursdays for backpacker night that also includes a barbecue.
