We wanted to get an up close and personal insight into the oldest continuous rainforest on the planet.

The best way to do that was with a visit to the Daintree Discovery Centre, in the heart of World Heritage-listed Daintree Rainforest.

Thought to be between 200 and 300 million years old, the Daintree Rainforest is considered to be one of the most unique ecological regions in the world.

We headed straight to the experts at the centre to get the lowdown on just what makes this region so special.

Our adventure of discovery at this world-class interpretive centre begins with an affordable and tasty lunch and cappuccinos at the Coffee Shop to build up our energy for the fun ahead.

Next, it’s off to collect our 48-page interpretive guidebook and audio guides and we are on our way.

The options are endless for exploring the rainforest in this fantastic location.

Although we opted for a self-guided tour, it’s a great idea to pre-book a group tour with one of the centre’s knowledgeable and experienced naturalists.

This is a real rainforest experience that offers you the opportunity to see what’s around you from different angles and perspectives, providing a secret glimpse you might otherwise miss.

If you’re lucky, you just might spot a cassowary from the Aerial Walkway with its mid-level views of the rainforest. Make sure you check out the Bush Tucker Trail and the Cassowary Circuit.

We were amazed by the 23m-high Canopy Tower – the only one like it in Australia.

Five observation platforms allow you to explore all the different levels of activity in this bustling environment.

To anyone who thinks they know all the secrets of the magical Daintree Rainforest, we beg to differ.

An adventure to this self-funding eco-tourism facility promises to entertain you with fun, fresh air and learning.
