Cairns roadside job search pays
WHILE other job seekers in the Far North spent yesterday enjoying a day off, Cairns man David Price took to the streets in search of a job.
The trained builder, who has more than 30 years’ experience in the industry, put up a white board on the side of the Captain Cook Highway at Smithfield which read: "Builder – work wanted".
It did not take long for motorists to stop and take him up on his offer, with Mr Price off to quote on a job yesterday afternoon.
Mr Price said it was the second time he had staged a roadside vigil and said he did it because of a lack of work in the Far North.
"It’s tough out there," he said. "This is the second time I have done this. It seems to bring about some pretty good work.
"I already have one job to go and look at this afternoon."
Mr Price, who specialises in new homes, renovations and commercial work, estimated he had already secured about $25,000 worth of work from his public advertising displays.
He said once he completed a job, it was usually pretty easy to find another.
Mr Price said the benefit of advertising on the side of the road was people could stop and personally discuss their projects.
