Ride on the wild side: The Australian Muster Experience is an outback adventure set in the lush Daintree Rainforest.

THE wild, wild west is right here in the Far North, writes Julianna Kerr...

If you’ve had enough of steamy traffic jams in the city, head to the tropical outback for a true blue Aussie adventure at the Australian Muster Experience.

Just north of Mossman and Port Douglas in the lovely Whyanbeel Valley, surrounded by the stunning Daintree Rainforest, lies a 161ha, 19th Century-inspired cattle station offering a glimpse into the real lives of genuine station workers.

The AME celebrates the spirit of outback Australia and invites visitors to experience the determination of the men and women who have mastered horsemanship and cattle mustering.

A visit to the AME means an exciting show featuring thundering hooves, whip-cracking and good old-fashioned Aussie humour.

Wild brumbies and herds of cattle stir up the dust as they’re mustered in for the action-packed show presented by these talented men and women.

Real stockmen and women wow the audience with their skills during this busy event, riding stunt horses with dogs, quad bikes and even a bull catcher.

After the show, guests are treated to a tasty barbecue lunch while they enjoy live music and bush tales.

Evening visitors should be ready to jump right in because the AME night show includes a free ride on the mechanical bull to test your own buckin’ skills.

Live country music will keep your toes tapping until the end of the night.

The AME provides a unique opportunity to get out there and learn about life in the outback and provides for a memorable experience.

Rates begin at $63 for adults for a self-drive getaway including entertainment, lunch and a fruit platter.

Or sit back, relax and let someone else do all the work with rates beginning at $99 a person for airconditioned return transfers from Port Douglas.

Return transfers also are available from Cairns and Mossman.
