Weather-related problems have caused power outages affecting homes throughout the Far North overnight.

In Kuranda, powerlines fell on Barron Falls Rd, creating a traffic hazard and cutting power to hundreds of homes in the region.

Ergon Energy expects power will be restored to all customers by about 9am.

Power was also cut to a small number of homes at Earlville, and in Mossman, about 80 homes were without power.

Ergon Energy crews have been working to identify the problems and restore power.

The weather bureau issued a severe weather warning for heavy rainfall and flash flooding for people in coastal areas and nearby ranges of the North Tropical Coast and Tablelands district early this morning.

However, the warning was lifted as rain eased by 7am.

Residents are advised to contact the SES on 132 500 for emergency assistance if required.
