Five-star: The Hilton Cairns has had a $4 million makeover.

AS THE first five-star hotel to be built in Tropical North Queensland, Hilton Cairns stands proud as an iconic piece of local culture.

Over the past year the hotel has spent close to $4 million ensuring that the property meets the expectation of every guest including Japanese visitors, southerners escaping the winter chill and, most importantly, locals looking to reacquaint themselves with home.

Described simply as contemporary, tropical and discerning, Hilton Cairns is now home to some of the most sophisticated rooms in the Tropical North.

The concept utilises three zones – a place to work, a place to relax and a bathroom that offers more than simple amenities.

The executive and spa rooms and suites feature lavish new carpets, a stylish work station, high-speed wireless internet access, state-of-the-art 37" LCD HDTVs with in-built Playstation, Hilton "suite dreams" beds, a comfortable rest area featuring an ergonomic leather recliner and outdoor furniture.

All rooms have benefited from the project, with subsequent guest rooms also receiving 37" LCD HDTVs and refreshed furniture.

The hotel’s general manager David Kelly says the revitalised design has elevated the property to one of the top spots as the city’s newest, most contemporary luxury hotel.

"We wanted to offer more than just a room," he says.

"Our new design creates an all-encompassing guest experience – a contemporary space on the waterfront that lends itself perfectly to both a holiday haven for travellers and a refined hideaway for locals."

The overall facelift has been a success for Hilton, having also injected more than $1 million to a new events floor and more recently opened Hanuman restaurant, which is fast becoming one of Cairns’ signature dining venues.

"We were the first luxury hotel to be built in Cairns – the building is a regional icon and it is imperative we remain at the top of our game and occupy the most contemporary and sophisticated spot in the market," he says.

As one of the city’s most celebrated landmarks, Hilton takes pride in looking after those in the neighbourhood.
