The fifth element
LITTLE BLACK DRESS: It's not much of a secret that I love getting dressed up.
Which is why I am excited by the start of the theatre season in Cairns. In a city that prides itself on casual cool, or sometimes just casual bogan, the theatre is one of those rare havens that allows you to really dress up and not feel like you have just stepped off the plane from Sydney or Melbourne.
Tonight is the JUTE Theatre season launch at CoCA and I have tried to come up with something creative and edgy – that's what theatre (as opposed to Hollywood) is all about, right? In my past attempts on opening nights, I would inevitably be trumped by the uber-glamorous Sarah Flenley (previous Jute General Manager) who would be draped in some knockout vintage number. I will be looking forward to going head to head with Sarah tonight.
I refer to these harem-esque pants as the Grace Jones’ and as most of you would agree, they can be hard to pull off. So I have cheated and hidden the somewhat saggy crotch with the LDB, focusing the attention on the volumes of fabric around the bottom of the trousers. The orange linen centrepiece is an old favourite from the days when Cairns was lucky enough to have fashion designer AILSA in town … enter the fifth element.
See you at the theatre.
P.S. Don’t forget to check out the blog on Saturday or Sunday – there is no rest for the 30-day challenge.
