Cool, casual and collected

LITTLE BLACK DRESS: I don't know about you, but casual is a difficult art to master.

And I don’t mean casual like denim shorts and a tank top.

When I attempt a casual look, I normally end up looking too sporty, too hippy or too dressy.  And just ask anyone who sees me at 5.30am every Friday morning at Rustys –  it is far too early for any attempt at style, casual or otherwise. At least that's my excuse.

So Day #4 was the first "black dress block" or BDB.  It took me four failed attempts before I reached where I am today.  Thankfully, there are only three Saturdays remaining in the project and one of them is my birthday which means I can throw the towel at casual and get dressed up!

Who ever said it was easy to dress down a black dress?  I could have taken the easy route and, to quote Marie Claire, "simply pair it with some strappy flat sandals, throw on a strand of beads, a wide brimmed and you have an instant summer outfit."

No, I couldn’t sell out that easily.

Instead I made it to the very bottom of my bottom drawer and retrieved a strapless AILSA tunic top that is split down the sides (notice how the LBD nicely obscures the exposed flesh – sigh, once upon a time I used to be able to wear this obstruction free).  The white trousers are the cheap-arse white rayon variety that crowd the racks at our numerous tourist shops.  The finishing touch is a favourite scarf picked up a couple of years ago on a Thelma and Louise holiday road trip with a girlfriend.

If you've got any tips on casual style, please post a comment and let us all in on your secret.
