Cyclone Olga reaches 110km/h
UPDATE, 10am: Cyclone Olga has crossed the Far North Queensland coast causing only minor damage.
The cyclone crossed the coast west of Karumba in the Gulf of Carpentaria about 5am with reported gusts of 110km/h but a Department of Community Safety spokeswoman said the only problem so far was a felled tree.
A building at Karumba was damaged after a tree fell on it and some powerlines were damaged in Normanton.
Ergon Energy disconnected the power supply to effect repairs. Minor damage caused by trees was also reported at Burketown.Do you have a picture of wild weather? Add your photo to our gallery
The two towns in its immediate path when it crossed the coast were Karumba and Normanton though it first passed over Mornington Island.
Although the cyclone had little impact on high tides in the area Karumba and Normanton are isolated after flood waters cut roads into those communities.A weather bureau spokesman said the category one cyclone was expected to peter out by this afternoon but local towns were on flood alert.
"It is over land and it is a cyclone, probably not for much longer though," the spokesman said.
"It has weakened a little bit now and is down to about 95km/h.
"I think it will gradually dissipate during the day and be downgraded to a tropical low by this afternoon."

The spokesman said heavy rain was expected in the region for the next couple of days.
"Normanton had something in the vicinity of 160mm in the last 24 hours," he said.
"There's a monsoonal low coming in off the Coral Sea so there will be more significant rain on the way.
"It's also expected to move south."
