Goodbye sailor

LITTLE BLACK DRESS: Warning: Do not try this at home unless you have very good air-conditioning.

I do love vintage, but only in the wintertime.  The wash and wear versatility of synthetic fibres is very appealing, but in summer in FNQ it pretty much equates to walking around all day in a tent.  No air gets in, and none gets out.  And how could they have worn a petticoat underneath as well?

This dress will probably soon go underneath the surgeon’s knife to be reborn as a skirt, as the bodice is not very flattering, and the less synthetic the better.  But for today’s purpose, the puffy sleeves work a treat.

The inspiration for today’s nautical ensemble comes from quite an unexpected source. Today I tip my sailor's cap to local activist Bryan Law. Whether or not you agree with his opinions or actions, if a few more of us had 1/10 as much courage as him to stand up for what they believe in, our communities would be very different and better places. To quote the Australian political action organisation Get Up, it’s about putting the people back into democracy.  I would love to have enough guts to swim with Bryan in Trinity Inlet the next time a warship is scheduled to dock in our city.
