A GROUP of American students finally saw Tim Tam for the first time last week - the baby koala they adopted while a world away.

The group of North American university students, on an environmental volunteer program, visited Rainforestation Nature Park at Kuranda to meet their adopted friend.

Through AustraLearn, a provider of educational programs across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific, the students adopted Tim Tam as part of an awareness program.

The group donated money for Tim Tam’s raising costs and health bills.

A plaque was also unveiled in honour of the koala with her naming rights and birth details engraved on it.

More than 200 students voted to name the baby Tim Tam, who has just started sticking her head out of her mum’s pouch.

Cybil, Tim Tam’s mum, has reportedly been a great mother for her new baby.
