CAIRNS Rowing Club has shown its appreciation to three of its most valued members by naming boats after them at a ceremony yesterday.
Kate Galloway (double scull), Kylie Pedder (double scull) and Dirk Krause (coxed four) had their names inked on the boats bought through grants from the State Government and Reef Casino Gambling Community Fund.
Club president Richard Shaw said it was the most appropriate gesture to recognise the members’ contributions.
"Kylie has been club secretary for the past three years and has been very instrumental in our learn-to-row and corporate rowing programs," he said.
"She’s also a champion in her own right and won a bronze in the World Masters Games last year.
"Kate was formerly the club’s treasurer and is now vice-president. She’s also a champion and also won bronze at the masters games.
"Dirk made a financial contribution to the club six years ago and we wanted to recognise that. He’s also given a significant contribution of his time because he is our head coach."
The North Queensland Games in Cairns (April 9-12) will be the first competition the boast are used in.
