Dumped insulation firm still trading
CONCERNS have been raised about a home insulation company dumped from the Federal Government's register but still trading in the Far North.
Queensland State Insulation was dumped from the register following claims of sub-standard and dangerous work, meaning its customers were no longer eligible for the government rebate.
But according to residents who have contacted The Cairns Post, the company is still operating and even offered to install one man’s insulation on Friday.
Manoora resident Kevin Charlesworth signed a contract with Queensland State Insulation last year and was contacted by the company on Thursday offering to do the job the following day.
Mr Charlesworth told the company that was not possible and rescheduled the work for next weekend.
But after reading a report in The Weekend Post on Saturday about the company, he said he would no longer allow them to do the work.
"I knew nothing about them being deregistered," he said.
"If they have been deregistered, I don’t want to let them into my house.
"I just think it is dishonest and they should have said what was going on. I am now in limbo."
Mr Charlesworth’s contract states a $500 fee will be charged if the contract is broken, but he said if the company has been reregistered under a different name, the situation would change.
"If they have reregistered under a different name, then I haven’t signed anything with them at all," he said.
"Would it then make all the contracts signed under the old name null and void?"
Half of Mr Charlesworth’s house is insulated using batts and he was told the remaining half would be insulated with a different product, something he has since been told is not allowed.
Parent company Famore Business Brokers could not be contacted for comment yesterday but CEO Smiley Sansoni on Friday said the company was a sales and marketing company recruiting work for registered insulation installers.
A message on the Queensland State Insulation website yesterday read: "In light of recent events we are modifying the website to reflect current conditions and hopefully have the website up within 72 hours."
