Bomb the boardroom
LITTLE BLACK DRESS: I was in a bit of a fluster last week when I realised the LBD would have to travel south today to Brisbane for a number of meetings.
I have blogged before about having fun with your corporate wardrobe, but would this fly in a capital city boardroom?
In early 2007 I travelled to Sydney for two job interviews: one with a major bank and the other with a start-up Dutch trading firm. I spent many hours over my Christmas holiday preparing for the interviews as well as deciding on two different outfits. Like most Cairns residents, I didn’t own a suit, nor could I justify buying one just for an interview, so I purchased a few really well tailored pieces to mix with some I already had in my wardrobe.
The trip was a success: I was offered both jobs.
However my choice of interview attire (which I considered to be my best “corporate” clothes) did not escape the attention of some snotty-nosed Gen Y trader from the Dutch firm who apparently asked the HR Manager: who was the hippy chick who came up with you in the lift?
Argh!
The grey metallic skirt I am wearing today is actually a very short singlet dress, the armholes are flapping freely somewhere near my waist. The black metallic vest is one of the most expensive things I have bought recently, but now that I do the sums, by recently I mean November 2008. It’s from Melbourne, which is not surprising given the colour.
Have I succumbed to the fears of being capital city boring, or is today’s LBD ensemble enough to stand out in the crowd?

LITTLE BLACK DRESS: If you can make out what is going on here with the LBD you have better eyes than me.
I'm not there
LITTLE BLACK DRESS: (Sorry Mr King, this isn't a tribute post to Bob Dylan).
Waisted Hippie
LITTLE BLACK DRESS: My last attempt at Saturday casual met with mixed response: creative and accessorised well, but too many layers and apronly (which sounds appropriately similar to matronly).
