1. Smile and Welcome Them: Try to say "hello" in Mandarin which is China’s official language. Try "Ni hao", which is pronounced, "knee how".

2. Decorate your store or place of business etc using the very important colours of red and gold: In Chinese culture, red is the lucky colour and signifies happiness. Gold signifies money, wealth and fortune.

3. Don’t sweep away good luck on New Year’s Day: Chinese believe if they clean on New Year’s Day
(Sunday) it symbolises the sweeping away of good luck. Leave your cleaning and sweeping until Monday.

4. Wear something red: Red is the lucky colour and signifies happiness. If you can wear a red shirt or blouse or even a hat on February 14, you may be pleasantly surprised when Chinese tourists stop at your shop or business.

5. Don’t forget your other customers: This Chinese New Year period is important to Chinese tourists who have chosen Cairns as their destination for this meaningful festive season. Enjoy it with all your customers, wherever they come from.
