LITTLE BLACK DRESS: Martini anyone? And can I tempt you with a seafood vol-au-vent?

There is something so very appealing about the thought of a 50s lounge party. Swinging tunes, sophisticated frocks and pearls, men in turtleneck sweaters, fabulous looking cocktails, and delicate morsels of food. Fast-forward six decades and it’s a case of BYO chair, slab and plate to share. And don’t worry about getting dressed up, yes, shorts are fine.

Is it time we put a little glamour back into to our house party’s?

There is little doubt this petticoat’s former life involved hours upon hours of dancing. You can’t help but be tempted to do a little spin here and there and watch the skirt come to life. Given it’s a work day however, the theatrics will be kept to a minimum (in public at least....).

The petticoat is worn over the top of the LBD and finished with a wide black lycra belt. A rummage through the jewellery box produced a rarely worn strand of pearls which I have doubled over and secured with a vintage-esque brooch from Tea Lilly.

Dizzy heights for Isabel Lucas

Down to earth: Isabel Lucas stars in a blockbuster,
genre-bending vampire movie Daybreakers alongside Hollywood
heart-throb Ethan Hawke.

SHE will walk the red carpet at five movie premieres this year - but Cairns' homegrown Hollywood actress Isabel Lucas is not about to let stardom cloud her vision.
