Animal instinct

LITTLE BLACK DRESS: For the faint of heart, animal print is only something you attempt when it is in the height of the fashion cycle.

However there are the dedicated troupe of safari lovers who proudly display their animal urges year in and year out.  The highest density of these folks seem to reside on the Gold Coast.

And you can be guaranteed to find plenty of Australian designed animal print garments thanks to fashion icon Charlie Brown who seems to be one of the few designers who regularly incorporates the fabric into her collections.  Charlie Brown has the added bonus of really knowing how to cut garments to suit the contours of a (real) woman.

Some kind soul in Cairns recently decided to rid their wardrobe of animal print, so this Charlie Brown skirt appeared on the rack at Kaotica – and very quickly disappeared into my wardrobe.

With a bit of extra sparkle from yet another pre-loved belt and scratchy-as-hell sequin scarf (who was the sadist that invented this?) I’m ready for a sunset mocktail overlooking the plains of Kruger National Park.  Or failing that, the next best alternative - Cairns Wildlife Safari.

Be brave. Be bold. Wear animal print whenever the urge strikes!
