PORT Douglas' hopes of a presidential visit have been dashed with the news Barack Obama has ruled out a visit to Queensland during his trip to Australia next month.

US President Barack Obama will visit Australia with wife Michelle and daughters Sasha, 8, and Malia, 11, next month.

But his itinerary is expected to include only Sydney and Canberra, the Sunday Mail reported yesterday.

The snub comes in the wake of Tourism Port Douglas Daintree's campaign to attract the president, including an “Obama for Port Douglas” Facebook group, which has 1188 members.

The White House had been following the campaign on Twitter and Facebook, and had been in discussions with Tourism Port Douglas Daintree boss Doug Ryan.
