WAKEBOARDER Sam Collins knows he can ill-afford mistakes if he is to have any chance of winning the Liquid Force Rail Jam series at Cairns Cable Ski today.

The 22-year-old trails series leader and fellow Cairns wakeboarder Matt Denetis by eight points in the pro-men’s section and needs results to go his way to leapfrog into first.

With US competitors also in town for the fifth and final event, Collins is expecting a tough time on the water.

"There are so many good riders out there. The ones from the US know what they’re doing, that’s for sure," Collins said. "It’s going to be one of those competitions where anything can happen.

"Even the top guys can fall if you’re not on your game."

Collins has already won two of the events in the series, scoring maximum points at Penrith and Bli Bli, on the Sunshine Coast.

He said he knew what his rivals were capable of.

"A lot of the guys we ski together and we know what each other can do," he said.

"But, if I’m feeling good I might try pulling out something a bit different.’’

Other divisions being raced today include wakeskate, amateur men, under-17 boys, under-13 boys, women and under-17 girls.

Action starts at 2pm.
