Have a say on Cairns $3b theme park plan
THE public is being asked to have its say on the multi-billion-dollar Tropical Paradise theme park proposed for Edmonton.
An impact study is examining the project’s potential environmental and social effects, and Infrastructure and Planning Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said public consultation was being sought.
Department of Infrastructure and Planning coordinator-general Colin Jensen said the project would be subject to further stringent environmental assessments.
"The preparation of the terms of reference for an environmental impact statement is the first stage of the environmental assessment process," Mr Jensen said.
"The environmental impact statement process considers a project's environmental, social and economic impacts to determine whether it can be approved and whether strict conditions are needed."
Plans for the Florida-styled precinct, proposed by Tropical Resorts Developments, features a major theme park and film studio, water rides and an undersea experience; hotels and golfing; extreme sports; entertainment precincts and living areas.
The draft Terms of Reference and the project's Initial Advice Statement can be viewed online and at Cairns Regional Council Chambers, 119 - 145 Spence St, Cairns and Edmonton Library, 175 Bruce Hwy, Edmonton.
Submissions can be sent to TPResort@dip.qld.gov.au before March 29.
