Quiet heart of relaxation: Ferntree Lodge, set back from the road to Cape Tribulation, offers a world of calm only two hours north of Cairns.

We wanted to find a quiet place to relax in the beauty of Tropical North Queensland that was close enough to home to be convenient %u2013 but far enough away that we felt like we were going on an adventure.

We found exactly what we were seeking at Ferntree Rainforest Lodge in Cape Tribulation. Ferntree is set back from the main road to Cape Tribulation, perfectly appointed and in the heart of lush Daintree rainforest. It’s just a short, pleasant little walk to a great swimming hole (but make sure you speak to the staff before taking a dip because this is croc country), the village and Cape Tribulation’s beach and mangrove boardwalks.

his is an environmentally friendly resort and a great spot to enjoy the rainforest in all its glory. Great care has been taken to leave the natural setting as untouched as possible. Beautiful wood decks wind their way through what is more a little village than anything else. With accommodation to suit all budgets, this is a wonderful and affordable place in which to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Visitor information: Daintree Rainforest.

In addition to poolside rooms and garden lofts, the Ferntree Hostel on site presents an opportunity to save some pennies and still relax in style. Ferntree Hostel features 21 quad share dorm rooms with bunk beds and private bathrooms as well as 10 double/twin dorm rooms (also with bunk beds and private bathrooms). This hostel is no ordinary place to just leave your gear and rest your head. You can take advantage of the swimming pool and barbecue area or chill out in the fantastic kitchen. There’s a great lounge area complete with beanbags scattered around for those who want to socialise and make friends with other travellers.

On the other side of the lodge are the poolside rooms – perfect for couples. They have a private balcony upstairs that gives you a great view of the main lagoon-style pool. You’ll have plenty of space and ensuite facilities with combined bath and shower. The garden loft rooms are not to be missed. These were our favourite. Surrounded by beautiful gardens teeming with rainforest wildlife, these rooms are perfect for families. The large rooms include a separate loft bedroom upstairs, which is great for the kids (and the adults). Your private veranda provides for a lovely spot to just sit and take it all in.

Ferntree Rainforest Lodge gives you a rare opportunity to leave the noisy world behind and enjoy the peace that comes from no television or mobile phones. Also on site is the Cassowary Café, which serves delicious food. Breakfast is included with your room and the restaurant is open daily for dinner.
