HE could not crack a top-three finish in the final round but a fifth placing was all wakeboarder Matt Denitis needed to win the pro-men's category of the Liquid Force Rail Jam Series at Cairns Cable Ski.

The 20-year-old from Cairns was a consistent force over the series’ five events and did enough to top the overall standings despite crashing during his run on Saturday.

The final round of the series attracted a star-studded roster of wakeboarders, including American competitors Tom Fooshee, Shawn Watson and Gabe Lucas.

Denitis, who finished in front of fellow Cairns wakeboarder Sam Collins in the overall standings, was not too disappointed with his final-round performance.

"You couldn’t have asked for a better day. The sun was out, the water was flat and there was no wind," Denitis said.

"I guess I was just a bit tired but all I had to do was basically not finish last.

"It’s a good feeling to win. I was not confident at all when the series started."

Fooshee won the pro-men’s division on Saturday in front of Collins and Matt Hasler.

Cairns cable skiers dominated the afternoon on their home course, with Sebastian Dunn (under-13 boys), Maddie Johnson (under-17 girls), Ethan Agius (under-17 boys) and Leighton Russell (amateur men) winning their respective
divisions.
