NOT even a Far North Queensland deluge could drown the spirits of the Australian lawn bowls team as they trained in Cairns.

Photographer Jake Nowakowski braved the wet weather to grab these pictures of the intrepid team in action yesterday.

The nation's top bowlers were in Cairns in the lead-up an eight-nation test event in Delhi in October.

Thunderstorms throughout the region saw 58.2mm of rain fall at Cairns Airport in the 24 hours to 8am today.

Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to continue across the Cairns region today.
