Tropical cyclone could form this weekend
A TROPICAL low that has formed northeast of Vanuatu is expected to form into a west-bound cyclone.
The weather bureau is keeping a careful eye on the low pressure system, which is likely to intensify in strength to become a tropical cyclone over the next three days.
The low was situated this morning northeast of Vanuatu and southeast of the Solomon Islands, slowly travelling west.
However the likelihood of the cyclone nearing the Queensland coast is estimated to be low during the next three days.
The bureau's cyclone outlook states there is up to a 20 per cent chance of a new tropical cyclone developing in the region on Sunday.
