Countdown starts to Port Douglas Carnivale

PORT Douglas has begun the countdown to Carnivale, which this year will prove to be a varied event with not one, but a number of themes being spread out across the May 20-30 event.
Port Douglas Carnivale chairman Kenn Dobbs said the street parade, which will be held on May 21, will have a Vintage Port theme.
"Different event managers have asked if they can use their individual themes and ideas this year, so we felt this way best reflects the community’s wishes and really, Carnivale is a community event that attracts visitors to Port Douglas so we believe that’s the way to go," Mr Dobbs said.
"(Vintage Port) will appeal to ladies because there’s a strong call to dress up in frocks within the vintage era theme.
"We are encouraging people to think back to when things were simple, to the style of the era of Bugsy Malone with spats and taps, when there were classy dames and sassy broads, when debonair dandies wore pin-stripe suits, and the music of the day was the cha cha cha or a swing band."
A tune by local singer-songwriter Omid Master, titled Everything is OK, has been chosen as Carnivale theme song.
"It remains an all-time favourite for me because I wrote it when I was enjoying a summertime peaceful lifestyle here and feeling very upbeat about life," Mr Master said.
