IT was biggest internet scandal since Paris Hilton got down and dirty in 2003.

Well, not quite, but The Cairns Post's snippet last week about Andrew Bogut having a dig at a Cairns Taipans fan on Twitter certainly generated a lot of comment.

Bogut had told the fan that he would not "throw away’’ his money on the NBL club survive.

The Milwaukee Bucks star read our snippet on the internet and, to put it mildly, didn’t think it was deserving of a Walkley award.

"That’s journalism at its best,’’ the NBA star wrote on Twitter.

"Writer should receive an award. Lmao. Gotta love the headline… He got paid for that article?’’

Then this: "So cause i wouldnt write a check for a mill im a bad guy. Hmmmm.’’ Hey, we never said that, we just reported the conversation.

At least Bogut was kind enough to give us a scoop. "Got another story for the Cairns post. I once flew to Cairns en route to Port Douglas. Woahhh print that. You there quality journo?’’

Bogut delivered a few other broadsides our way, at which point we thought the story would die an unpleasant death.

But then The Daily Telegraph got wind of it, opining that, "We’d hate to see how he reacts after a shocker for the Milwaukee Bucks.’’

Bad move. Bogut responded: "STUNNING job! Not bitter. (thats sarcasm),’’ and, "Its awesome. Ill be in new idea next...’’

We then got a laugh out of this Tweet: "Seinfeld... If you missed this tweet about Seinfeld read all about it tomo. Try the Cairns post or Daily Telegraph. Thank you.’’

Bogut’s fans sprung to the big fella’s defence over our non-attack, telling him how horrible sections of the Australian media had become.

The goading went on for the rest of the week, even after the Bucks centre produced a brilliant game against the Boston Celtics.

When Bogut posted a joke wondering whether Michael Clarke would change his "LB tatt to LBW hahahaha’’ a fan reminded him that it might translate in the paper to "Bogut causes pup and bingle to split".

Considering Bogut seems like a pretty decent bloke and is in career-best form we were surprised he’d get so worked up about a light-hearted piece.

At least it’s nice to see him delivering some points from long range for a change!

Playful Pup must settle down
