Cyclone Ului lurks over Coral Sea
UPDATE, March 15, 11pm: Cyclone Ului is expected to continue moving slowly west over the next couple of days, while gale force winds continue to threaten the Far North Queensland coast.
The weather bureau’s latest cyclone advice predicts Cyclone Ului will turn towards the south mid-week while remaining well off the Queensland coast.

At 10pm it was located about 1350 km northeast of Mackay and was moving west at about 9km/h.
It is tipped to intensify to category 5 by 10am tomorrow, but the bureau says it poses no immediate threat to the Queensland coast and will remain well off the Queensland coast for at least the next few days.

Its longer term forecast track is still uncertain but at this stage the most likely scenario is for Severe Tropical Cyclone Ului to remain offshore and eventually adopt a more southerly track over the next day or so.

A gale warning is in place from Cooktown to Sandy Cape, for southeasterly winds of 25/33 knots, gradually increasing to 30/35 knots in open offshore waters tomorrow afternoon and evening, with seas of 2.5m to 3.5m.
And a strong wind warning continues from Lockhart River to Cooktown, for southeasterly winds of 25/33 knots between Cape Melville and Cooktown, gradually extending north to Lockhart River tomorrow afternoon, with seas of 2.2m in open waters.
