Cyclone Ului remains offshore
UPDATE, March 16, 6am: Cyclone Ului has slowed and it is expected to remain a category four cyclone as it hovers offshore over the next 48 hours.
At 4am it was located about 1330km northeast of Mackay and 1450km east of Cooktown.
It was moving west southwest at about 4km/h.

Severe Tropical Cyclone Ului poses no immediate threat to the Queensland coast and is expected to remain well offshore over the eastern Coral Sea for at least the next few days.
It is expected to adopt a more southerly track today which it should maintain until late in the week.
Latest weather bureau warnings
A gale warning remains in force for the coast from Cooktown to Sandy Cape, with southeasterly winds predicted to reach 25/33 knots, gradually increasing to 30/35 knots in open offshore waters late this afternoon or in the evening, and seas rising 2.5m to 3.5m.
A strong wind warning for Lockhart River to Cooktown tips southeasterly winds of 25/33 knots between CapeMelville and Cooktown, gradually extending north to Lockhart River during the afternoon, and seas of 2.5m in open waters.
The winds are associated with a high over the southern Tasman Sea that will remain near stationary and extend a ridge along the east Queensland coast.
