Simplified
With a spot confirmed on this year's BluesFest program, a plethora of other festival and musical achievements and growing acclaim around the country, Far North Queensland indigenous reggae outfit Zennith are about to become a household name.
Celebrating the release of debut single Simplified this month, the prelude off their debut album which is due out mid-year, Zennith will take their message of understanding, empathy, culture and reconciliation to the world.
Simplified, released on Friday on iTunes, is apt as the band’s first single – it not only embodies everything the band members’ stand for, but also tells a story that is close to their collective hearts.
Inspired by the children of Palm Island in Queensland, and dedicated to the children of the world, it’s a song that everyone of any age will be able to relate to.
What’s interesting about Zennith is the diverse range of ages in the band, and experience.
Made up of the Brim family: dad Willie and sons Astro and Aden, it also features close friends of the band, Isaac and Lindsay, resulting in a collaborative effort that not only has extreme musical chemistry, but also a cross-section of generations and a similar vision.
Picking Simplified as the debut single, band member Astro Brim says the song is a perfect introduction to the band’s own created genre of "Kuranda" reggae.
"It’s a window into our reality, and a little taste of what to expect," he says.
Willie Brim says it wasn’t a band decision to pick Simplified as the first single from the album, rather it was picked by the audiences and fans at the gigs whose response strongly showed the empathy and resonance of the song.
"Along with the music it shows our passion as human beings and the love we share for one another," he says.
>> Simplified is available from tomorrow on iTunes. The film clip for Simplified is online now at www.youtube.com/hotpresspub or www.myspace.com/zennithboyz
